Privacy Notice
Last updated: 22 September 2026
This notice explains what Jerne Group Inc. (“Jerne”, “we”, “us”) collects through this website and through messages sent to our Instagram account, @jernewithme, before we launch, why, and what you can do about it. We will replace it with a fuller notice when we launch, and we will tell anyone on our mailing list when we do.

1. Who we are
Jerne Group Inc., Suite 5600, 100 King Street West, Toronto, Ontario, M5X 1C9, Canada. Our Privacy Officer is accountable for how we handle personal information and can be reached at privacy@jerne.com.
2. What we collect
In short: your email address if you join our list; your Instagram details if you verify an account with us; and standard server logs.
If you join our mailing list: your email address, the wording you agreed to, the date and time you agreed, the page you signed up on, and the type of browser you used. We keep the wording and the time because they are the record of your consent.
If you verify an Instagram account with us: the Instagram username you give us and the one-time code we show you. When you send that code to @jernewithme by direct message, Meta passes us the message together with an identifier for your account that is specific to Jerne. We then ask Meta for one thing — the username of the account that sent the message — and compare it with the username you typed. We keep the username you typed, the code, whether the two matched, when, and a scrambled (hashed) form of the identifier, so that the same account can be recognised without the identifier itself being stored. We do not keep the identifier, the message, or the username Meta returns. We send you one automated reply saying whether the account was confirmed. Its only purpose is to confirm that the account is really yours, so that nobody can claim an account that belongs to someone else. We do not collect anything from accounts that have not messaged us.
What verifying does not do.
- It gives us no access to your account. You never sign in to Jerne with Instagram, you never grant Jerne any permission on your account, and we will never ask for your Instagram password.
- It gives us none of your content. Sending the code does not let us see, download or keep your posts, photos, reels, stories, highlights, captions, comments, likes, followers, following list or messages.
- We cannot act as you. We cannot post, comment, like, follow or send messages from your account.
- We do not scrape your profile. The only thing we ask Meta for is the username of the account that sent the code.
- We act on one message. Our verification service acts only on a message to @jernewithme that contains a code, and keeps no message text. It cannot see your conversations with anyone else.
As with any Instagram account, the Jerne team can see messages sent to @jernewithme; we use them only to reply to you.
When you visit the site: our hosting provider records standard server and security logs — your IP address, the time, and the page requested — to keep the site available and secure.
3. Why we collect it
- To email you updates from Jerne — only if you asked us to, by ticking the box that reads “Email me with updates from Jerne.” This is based on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
- To confirm that you control an Instagram account you have told us about.
- To keep the site secure and working.
We do not sell personal information, we do not use it for advertising, and we do not make decisions about you by automated means.
4. Who we share it with
Amazon Web Services hosts this website and stores the information described above on our behalf. Meta processes the direct messages you send to our Instagram account under its own terms and privacy policy, and answers our request for the username of the account that sent the code. We share nothing with anyone else unless the law requires it.
5. Where it is kept
On Amazon Web Services in the United States. Information stored there may be accessed by courts, law-enforcement and national-security authorities of the United States under its laws.
6. How long we keep it
- Mailing list: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. After that we keep only a record that you asked, so that we never email you again.
- Instagram verification: the one-time code expires after 30 minutes and is deleted as soon as it is used; the record of the check is deleted automatically after seven days. You can ask us to delete it sooner.
- Server, security and service logs: up to 90 days. Our service logs record the username and the result of each verification check.
7. Cookies
This site does not set cookies and does not use analytics or advertising trackers.
8. Age
You must be at least eighteen to join our list or verify an account with us. We delete information we learn came from someone younger.
9. Your choices and rights
You can unsubscribe from our emails at any time using the link in every email we send, or by writing to privacy@jerne.com. You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it; we will reply within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or to the privacy authority where you live.
10. Changes to this notice
We will update this notice when what we do changes — and at launch — and change the date at the top.
